Trump's Dismantling of the US

The mission is not reform but destruction

The Dismantling of America: Trump, Musk, and the Institutional Destruction of the U.S.

Donald Trump is tearing the United States apart, and whether he is doing so under Russian or Chinese orders or simply fulfilling their wildest dreams, the result is the same—a country weakened, divided, and on the brink of collapse.

One of the most alarming signs of this dismantling came with the Trump administration’s decision to ignore a judicial order halting the deportation of individuals. These people were rounded up across the U.S. and sent to El Salvador, where they are reportedly subjected to forced labor. The defiance of the judiciary in such a blatant manner marks a dangerous turn, one in which the executive branch disregards legal boundaries in favour of unilateral action. This case echoes other judicial subversions, such as the deportation of a physician from Brown University, or the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil and helps to illustrate what is a broader effort to erode institutional checks on executive power now that, with a completely occupied Congress, the judiciary is the only branch still capable of pushing back on the White House.
